OUR HISTORY
Our History The Anglican Diocese of Ottawa, formerly a part of the Diocese of Ontario, was incorporated in 1896. This newly formed Diocese included the counties of Carleton, Lanark, Renfrew, Russell, Prescott, Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, and the majority of the then Territory of Nipissing in the Province on Ontario. In 1965 the Deanery of Clarendon, on the North shore of the Ottawa River in the Province of Quebec, was transferred from the Diocese of Montreal to the Diocese of Ottawa. The Deanery of Clarendon is comprised of the westerly portion of the County of Papineau, from and including the Township of Buckingham, and the counties of Gatineau, Hull, and Pontiac. For detailed records of the Diocese and its parishes, please consult the Diocesan Archives.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
Embracing God’s World
In 2013, the Diocese initiated a widespread, consultative discernment process resulting in a 2015 strategic roadmap for the future. It included 5 Practices and 5 Priorities concerning buildings and the shape of parish ministry; engagement with the world; lifelong formation; worship and hospitality and communications. In 2018, the strategic roadmap was extensively reviewed through individual interviews and deanery consultations. It was agreed to:
- retain and reinvigorate EGF as the roadmap for the Diocese so that the Diocese as a whole can build on successes to date, especially the spirit of collaboration that is increasingly evident, and so that parishes can integrate priorities and practices into their own ministries;
- reorder and, in some cases, revise the priorities; combine priorities 3 and 4;
- update the actions to reflect what has happened over the past few years and suggest what is still needed; and
- leave practices as first presented.
